’Urgent intervention’ needed to tackle speeding in Kilmacrennan - Donegal News

DONEGAL County Council will write to Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII) regarding speeding concerns in Kilmacrennan.

A motion calling for the TII to implement “urgent traffic calming measures” on the N56 road through the village was passed at the July meeting of Letterkenny-Milford Municipal District (MD).

The speed limit through Kilmacrennan village is 50kmh, however proposals have been put forward to increase this to 60kmh.

Independent Cllr Pauric McGarvey introduced the motion as he said “urgent intervention” is needed.

He said Kilmacrennan residents are “feared with speed” and claimed that the current speed limit is “not being adhered to”.

Cllr McGarvey expressed that he has raised the issue several times over his three and a half years as a councillor.

“Nothing has been done to help,” he said, alluding to previous calls for speed cameras and flashing signs among other measures.

“It’s surprising that there hasn’t been more accidents,” he added.

Following the passing of the motion, arrangements will now be made to write to the TII on the issue.
