Garda Pat McGee sought the bail condition when Osvaldas Giedraitis (36), Eiscir Summer Road, Tullamore, appeared before Judge Andrew Cody.

Mr Giedraitis is alleged to have driven without a licence or insurance on March 29 last at Daingean Road, Tullamore.

Tullamore councillors congratulate native son on major award Patrick Martin, the solicitor who appeared for the accused man, applied for a short adjournment and Judge Cody said he would put the matter back to October 14 next when a plea can be entered.

Garda McGee asked that Mr Giedraitis not drive in the meantime and Mr Martin indicated his client would be agreeable to that, adding that the man's first language was Lithuanian.

Judge Cody made it a condition of bail that he not drive and also certified for a Lithuanian interpreter to be in court on the next occasion.

If a hearing is required it will take place on November 16, the judge ruled.
