30% increase in funding for Housing Adaptations for older and disabled people in Louth

Louth County Council have received over €3.5 million in Exchequer funding for the scheme.

Louth County Council have received a 30% increase in funding for housing adaptations for older and disabled people.

The total allocation of over €4.1 million includes more than €3.5 million in exchequer funding.

The Department of Housing have said the increased funding will deliver around 17,000 grants nationwide.

Under the scheme, grants of up to €40,000 are available to assist disabled people in carrying out the necessary work to make a home more suitable for their needs.

Additionally, grants of up to €10,700 are available to assist older people to have necessary repairs or improvements carried out on their homes and grants of up to €8,000 are available for mobility aids.

Cathaoirleach of the Dundalk Municipal District, Fine Gael councillor Robert Nash has welcomed the funding and labelled the grants as "crucial in enabling Louth County Council to further support older and disabled individuals to adapt their homes to suit their needs and to maintain their independence".

“I have met many recipients here in Louth and have seen the positive difference that adaptation works have made to their lives at home. The local economy also benefits through the provision of employment for local tradespeople," he said.

Cllr Nash commended Louth County Council and said the local authority does "great work in administering the grants, including assessing the applications and arranging home inspections where adaptations are proposed.”

“I am firmly committed to supporting individuals to remain at home and within their own communities and these increased grants will enable more people to do that," he said.

In 2025, Louth County Council received just shy of €2.7 million in exchequer funding.
