A TEENAGER accused of drawing graffiti across 18 locations in west Mayo last summer appeared in court charged with criminal damage.

Daniel Morrison (19) with an address at Teevmore, Newport appeared before Castlebar District Court where he was charged with 18 counts of criminal damage at various locations around Westport between June 24 and June 26, 2025.

Court presenter, Sergeant John O'Reilly explained that graffiti was drawn on 18 locations across Westport and following extensive CCTV enquiries, Mr Morrison was identified as a suspect in all 18 cases.

Judge Vincent Deane was informed that it is alleged that €4,700 worth of damage was caused by the graffiti which was drawn on a combination of private and public buildings and businesses.

Sgt O'Reilly said that the direction to prosecute the case in the district court was taken at a local level and the file was not sent to the DPP for direction.

After hearing the allegations against Mr Morrison, Judge Deane refused jurisdiction and the case was adjourned until June 17 for service of the book of evidence.

The court also heard that Mr Morrison is also charged with one count of theft from Tesco in Westport and this charge was adjourned until June 17. The matter of legal aid was deferred until a later date.
