There was a call for safety works to be undertaken on the R208 at the recent meeting of Ballinamore Municipal District.

Cllr Brendan Barry (SF) submitted a motion to the meeting. In his motion, he stated, “I ask that Leitrim County Council carry out safety works on the bend at the Kiltubrid side of Aghacashlaun Bridge on the R208. There have been numerous accidents at this location recently and fatalities in the past. I believe road widening and realignment is required.”

A written reply from the council stated, “Leitrim County Council currently have a Low Cost Safety Scheme approved at this location. Reflective road studs have been installed. Warning signs including Chevron signs to highlight the bend are due to be installed in the coming weeks.”

Responding to the council's reply, Cllr Barry told the meeting, “I welcome these works. Hopefully they will stop accidents.”
