Iarnród Éireann in talks with the ESB

The long running issue of the lack of car parking spaces at the train station at Cortober, Carrick-on-Shannon may soon be drawing to an end with the news that Iarnród Éireann is in talks with the ESB about a potential site in the area across from the station.

A meeting of Boyle Municipal District heard last week that the matter “is getting sorted but has nothing to do Roscommon County Council.”

The executive told members that the parties involved “are just going through it (the plan).” The news was welcomed by all councillors.

Cllr Michael Frain has earlier raised the issue when he stated that Iarnród Éireann had written off €50 million for a failed IT project and “we are being asked to provide parking at Cortober.”

However it was clarified that with the latest talks involving the two other parties that car park has “nothing to do with Roscommon County Council.”
