In Kilmeaden, locals have been protesting a multi-billion-euro data centre proposal

Darragh Murphy A local councillor has asked for a report to be produced to provide insight on proposed data centres in Waterford.

Cllr Seamus Ryan said last week that there are significant concerns among local communities about the development of data centres.

He cited Kilmeaden as a key example, where locals have been protesting plans for a multi-billion-euro data centre proposal in the village.

In light of these concerns, Cllr Ryan asked Senior Council Executives for a report to be prepared and produced.

“I think it’s very important and there are a lot of concerns around data centres. We need to take a look at that” he said.

In response to the query, Council Director of Services, Ivan Grimes, said he is not in a position to prepare such a report.

“Unfortunately, I wouldn’t be in a position to bring a report because we have active planning applications for data centres, so it wouldn’t be appropriate” he said.
